We’re looking for career-oriented individuals with a strong desire to learn the art gallery business. Our interns have wide interaction with the public, both in person and via social media. Ideal candidates will have strong written and organizational skills, be tech-savvy and be eager to meet all sorts of creative challenges. This is a great opportunity to learn and grow.
Program Description:
This is an unpaid internship with a bi-weekly local travel stipend. Internships require a minimum commitment of at least two days per week. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am – 6 pm. Listed below are the different available gallery internships.
Gallery Internship Opportunities
Gallery Registrar Internship
Working alongside the gallery’s Exhibition Coordinator/Registrar interns will assist with daily operations, work on specialized projects and learn about the functions of the position including the proper care and storage of artwork, organizing group exhibitions, planning installations and handling international shipments.
Sample internship tasks include:
- Assist with exhibition coordination and installation design
- Participate in strategic installation planning for upcoming exhibition and art fairs
- Learning essential skills for art handling and art installation
- Organizing paperwork and details for incoming and outgoing shipments
- Maintaining workshop and storage areas
Gallery Assistant Internship
The intern will be exposed to all aspects of working in a contemporary art gallery and will assist the Gallery Staff with general tasks. Interns will assist with daily gallery operations, reception openings and will work on specific projects that are based on individual interests, skills and the needs of the gallery.
Tasks may include:
- Meeting, greeting and assisting artists, collectors, and visitors.
- Writing and editing texts for blogs posts, press releases, catalogs and magazine articles.
- Answering and directing phone calls.
- Attending gallery openings and performing various event duties.
- Helping with social media postings.
- Preparing outgoing mailings to artists.
- Assisting with exhibition preparation.
Social Media Internship
We’re looking for a creative student who has a demonstrated passion for the contemporary art world and social media. You will work closely with the Social Media Coordinator to contribute to producing content and assisting with the day-to-day management of our social media channels. The ideal candidate has experience contributing to successful social media channels.
Tasks will include:
- Researching and drafting posts aimed at promoting current and upcoming exhibitions
- Researching specific topics
- Pitching ideas for creative promotional content
- Writing and/or edit content for the gallery’s blogs
